MARAH (USA) + Sam Gibson
Weve got Marah back from USA after nearly a decade.....it is their debut album "Kids in Philly" anniversary too....Here's some recent reviews
“Marah blow the roof off with their barely contained energy. It’s street music, soul music, music to walk you off a skyscraper to… You’re left with your hair standing on end, shaken up, exhilarated, that hole in your heart temporarily fixed, which is all you can ask of great rock ‘n’ roll. And God knows, this is great rock ‘n’ roll.” – Uncut..
“With Angels of Destruction!, Philly natives Dave and Serge Bielanko, and their band have cranked out another relentlessly energetic dose of fast-and-loose brilliance. Angels reaffirms that these scrappy underdogs (and fans from Stephen King and Steve Earle to Bruce Springsteen and Nick Hornby) are not misguided in their unwavering belief that it’s still possible to save rock ‘n’ roll. As long as Marah lives, the epic rock album will not fade away.” – Lynne Margolis, Paste Magazine.
“Marah turns sky-high expectations into down-to-earth rock reality that makes your head bang and your heart pump.” –New York Post
“Their performances are raucous, ramshackle, soulful, and utterly committed to the magical notion that rock is a vehicle for a higher power.” – The Times

WESTERN CENTURIES (USA) + Shipcote & Friends
Seattle based musician Cahalen Morrison is best known as one half of Morrison & West, prime purveyors of bare boned rootsy old timey music. With an all star bunch of local Seattle musician's named Western Centuries he now heads into honky tonk dance music, joyous and tear stained, rooted in Hank Williams with a touch of The Band. , Morrison is aided and abetted on his new project by chums, jam band veteran Jim Miller (co-founder of Donna the Buffalo), R&B and bluegrass-by-way-of-punk rock songwriter Ethan Lawton, pedal steel player Rusty Blake from The Railsplitters ,and bassist Dan Lowinger. . They deliver a country sound that is cooked in a delicious stew brewed from Waylon Jennings grit filled barnstormers, tear filled ballads and some of that old cosmic cowboy music.

The Lowest Pair (USA) + Skylark Song
The Lowest Pair feature the duel banjo picking of Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee. Draped in Kendl’s high lonesome harmonies and Palmer’s Midwest croon, their debut album was hailed by American Songwriter.
Arkansas-born and now homesteading in Olympia, Kendl brings to The Lowest Pair her wonderfully weaving poetry of song, old and new, and a voice somewhere between Gillian Welch and Iris DeMent with a little Olympia twist. Palmer T. Lee who hails from Minneapolis was nineteen years old when he inherited a couple of banjos and discovered he could reassemble them into his dream instrument. Palmer’s songs are distilled into the warm sweet sounds of his percussive wordplay and the melodic interludes of his own unique style played on a pieced together banjo.
Folk radio UK – “Music for sunshine and mint juleps” Fatea magazine “Voices just born to sing bluegrass and old-time” Lonesome Highway - “A musical marriage made in heaven” R2 magazine “Vocal perfection” Americana UK – “A true joy”
Alex & Emma McRae - Skylark Song grew out of a mutual love of warm melodies, close harmonies and the odd natural lyrical reference. The Crack Magazine describing them as “Utterly gorgeous” and “the kind of folk music that feels like it’s been constructed from hedgerows and wild flowers”.

An Evening With MARTIN STEPHENSON
Martin Stephenson returns for his annual show at Caedmon Hall. He has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for over 30 years.
Always popular on the circuit, Stephenson’s “must see” live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation. Martin & The Daintees’ critically acclaimed 1986 debut “Boat To Boliva” opened up an exhilarating music career. It showcased Stephenson’s song-writing, poetic romanticism and spiritual depth – so marking him out as a soulful cream of the leftfield crop during the self-obsessed 1980s.
Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch on a varied mix of musical styles was immediately apparent. His path destined to be a lifelong journey through the music he loves: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.

WHITNEY ROSE & Band ( USA/Canada) + Mush
Ever since the release of her 2015 album “Heartbreaker of the Year” Whitney Rose has been converting critics’ double takes into palpable buzz with her beguiling blend of then and now. The countrypolitan singer songwriter’s work has been praised everywhere from Rolling Stone Magazine to The New York Times and landed her a spot on Telegraph UK’s top country albums of 2015 list. Before moving to Texas in 2016, Rose had never danced the two-step. Now, the country-pop singer’s infatuation with Texas’ rich musical culture, from stage to studio to dance floor, informs an enthralling new project, a love letter to the Lone Star State. Her new EP, South Texas Suite, is a touch nostalgic, deeply romantic and defiantly personal — it’s Texas, through Whitney Rose’s eyes and ears.

BARRENCE WHITFIELD & THE SAVAGES (USA) + Support
Barrence Whitfield is a full-throttle soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, and Solomon Burke. He has been described as the owner of one incredible pair of lungs, with limitless energy and unmatched enthusiasm for his music and his audience. Barrence is a rarity in this business–one of a few black, rock 'n roll singer/entertainers who Spin Magazine says maintains a frenzied performance. The Savages lay down a groovy racket that’s so thick and greasy, you’ll need to keep moist towelettes near the hi-fi. Barrence and the boys are to soul what the Cramps are to Rockabilly.
I hadn't heard from Barrence in a while...I have now. Don't "Turn Your Damper Down"...Turn it up!" - Elvis Costello
"Barrence is back, bigger and better than ever, playing with the right guys, The Savages, who first helped Barrence explode onto the scene in the 80s. Raw and powerful, the way I like it, shot through with unexpected humor." - Peter Zaremba, The Fleshtones
"Barrence Whitfield is the Barrence Whitfield of R&B." - Andy Kershaw, BBC
"Rock royalty." - Boston Herald.

An evening with CARRIE ELKIN (USA) & special guest DANNY SCHMIDT (USA)
Award-winning Austin Texas artists Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt are both songwriters who have performed on each other's solo recordings, but this UK tour marks the promotion of a recording debut of their duo material, which has been enjoyed by thousands of fans at their live shows.
Carrie Elkin, last seen here with Sam Baker, has emerged as one of the defining new voices in the world of Texas singer-songwriters, being celebrated by Texas Music Magazine as one of their artists of the year. The voice, the stories, the images, the grace, it's the complete package. But it's the power of her live performances that really have been creating an incredible buzz around this young artist. Maverick Magazine said it best, after a recent festival performance: "I have never seen a performer so in love with the act of singing. That's the gospel truth. Onstage, Elkin was simply a force of nature."
Danny Schmidt Named to the Chicago Tribune's “50 Most Significant Songwriters in the Last 50 Years,” Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt has been rapidly ascending from underground cult hero status to being recognized as an artist of generational significance. Danny is considered a preeminent writer, an artist whose earthy poetry manages to somehow conjure magic from the mundane, leading Sing Out Magazine to tag him: "The best new songwriter we've heard in the last 15 years."

CHASTITY BROWN (USA) + Little Mo & Friends
The wonderful songsmith/troubadour Chastity Brown who's based in Minnesota (but with roots in the deep South) makes a welcome return to Newcastle as a duo. Her music has a gospelly protest singer vibe, not unlike Odetta but their still expansive, alluring folk songs" - You may have seen her on BBC2's Later with Jools Holland.
"Brown is not just a folk artist, she is a poet, one who pours every ounce of her life and feeling into her music, one who is impossible to ignore.” - City Pages.
Chastity Brown is not a blaxploitation film, but rather a mesmerizing Minnesota-based singer-songwriter whose softly powerful song is about gonna-come changes." - THE GLOBE AND MAIL
"Classy Country-Soul with a hefty dash of the Blues to send a shiver down your spine." - NO DEPRESSION
“Even on Brown’s glossiest countrypolitan tunes, her voice aches with raw emotion, while her forays into gospel and blues possess a surprisingly accessible melodic sensibility.” - THE ONION

SAM BAKER (USA) + Tildon Krautz (USA/France)
Acclaimed Austin Texas songster Sam Baker will be previewing songs from his new electric album recorded in Nashville, ahead of a longer UK tour in February 2018.

VIN GORDON & The Real Rock Band + Esperanza + Ska'd For Life Dee Jay-Micky Pattison
The legendary Vin Gordon, aka 'Trommie', aka 'Don D Junior', is Jamaica's master trombonist, and played through the golden years of Jamaican music - through ska, rocksteady and on to working with some of the most iconic reggae artists in the world.
Vin's life in music started in the early 60s at the legendary Alpha Boys School of Music where he took up the trombone. Soon mastering his sound and earning a reputation as a player, he started recording at Coxone Dodd's Studio One in 1965 recording for The Wailers alongside great musicians such as The Skatalites' Roland Alphonso, Tommy McCook, Jackie Mittoo, Lloyd Brevett, Lester Sterling, Bobby Ellis and many more.
Vin's trombone sounds can be heard on the recordings of many Studio One legends of the day: the Wailers, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, the Abyssinians, the Heptones, Delroy Wilson, Bob Andy and Alton Ellis and plenty more, the list is staggering.
His biggest hits as a solo artist were 'Heavenless' (credited as 'Don D Junior') and 'Real Rock', which he composed alongside keyboard genius Jackie Mittoo, a forever popular massive reggae anthem, and possibly the most covered riddim in reggae history.
In 1977 his friend Bob Marley brought him to London (Vin was his favourite trombone player having played on the Natty Dread and Rastaman Vibration albums) to record the Exodus and Kaya albums, both million selling classic albums (including hits like ‘Is This Love’, ‘Satisfy My Soul’, ‘Exodus’). While in the UK he also worked with Aswad contributing greatly to their success at the time writing heavy horn based tunes such as 'Warrior Charge' and 'Dub Fire' (immortalised by Dennis Brown as 'Promised Land'). For the last twenty years Vin has toured the world as a member of The Wailers and the Skatalites and in more recent times he has led his own group, the Real Rock Band a fantastic 8 piece London based outfit.
As the years have passed we realize the huge contribution to reggae music Vin Gordon has made, from an unsung hero to an elder statesman.
Tues 11th July @ The Studio in Live Theatre £12.00
An Evening with WILL HOGE (USA)
"Took a whole lot of miles to know what I know now," sings Will Hoge on "Growing Up Around Here," the opening track off of his new tenth studio album, Small Town Dreams. "I'm kinda proud of growing up around here." It's been a whole lot of miles, indeed: miles on the road, driving the bus himself from venue to venue since the late nineties; miles to and from Nashville writing rooms, where he's spent countless hours penning songs – some for him, some for others; miles exploring lands outside of his native Franklin, Tennessee, chasing the spirits of his musical heroes. Roads meet, roads split, roads led to home.
"An extremely prolific songwriter and countless songs written for others (including a co-written number-one country hit for Eli Young Band's "Even If Breaks Your Heart," ), Hoge saw this next phase of his journey as an opportunity to explore even deeper into both his country and rock & roll roots. Never fitting particularly neatly into a genre box, he's always just made the music that moved him – but it's safe to say that he feels more kinship with the country community than ever, particularly as a storyteller.
This is his debut North east show on a short UK tour & a rare opportunity to catch this acclaimed artist.

Austin Texas Favorite songwriting Duet ....
The songs of mandolin and guitar player Brennen Leigh have been recorded by country stars Sunny Sweeney and Grammy winner Lee Ann Womack. Leigh has a cult following in Scandinavia, and has performed and recorded with artists such as Charlie Louvin, Robbie Fulks and Jim Lauderdale.
Guitarist Noel McKay was discovered by Guy Clark in 1993 while performing at the Jimmie Rodgers Festival in Kerrville, Texas. Clark and McKay’s co-write “El Coyote” went on to win a Grammy
Brennen Leigh and Noel McKay craft story songs with equal measures heart (“Before the World Was Made”) and humor (“Breaking Up And Making Up Again”). Evidence: Before the World Was Made. The Austin-based songwriters’ debut collaboration spotlights celebrated troubadours in peak form (“Before We Come to Our Senses”). “These are modern day country duets à la George Jones and Melba Montgomery,” producer Gurf Morlix says, “but with very sophisticated songwriting.”
Brennen Leigh's 'You've Never Been to North Dakota' soothes like Cole Porter, timelessly lyrical both literally and vocally." --Raoul Hernandez, Austin Chronicle

THE STRAY BIRDS (USA) + Support
Originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Stray Birds started as a duo of acoustic buskers in early 2010 when Maya de Vitry and Oliver Craven met with their instruments, their voices, and their songs. It didn't take much convincing to get bassist Charlie Muench on board, and with the addition of a third unique and powerful voice, the group began to define its captivating sound. Since taking America by storm in 2013 they have gone on to win a huge fanbase following triumphant appearances at big festivals around the world such as Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, MerleFest and Tønder. One of the outstanding successes of the Cambridge event in 2015, they were filmed for the Sky Arts TV coverage, presenter Mark Radcliffe telling viewers they were “one of the hits of the event,” and adding: “Everyone was talking about them - I know you’re gonna love them.” They continued to build their UK fanbase in 2016 with a tour of sold-out shows and ended the year on a high being voted Band of The Year in the annual Readers’ Poll at AmericanaUK where they also took the Album of The Year award too.
